A proven, progressive record.
As a state senator, here are bills I have introduced to fight for YOU:
Worker, Housing, and Consumer Protections
Climate change, unprecedented corporate power, and eroding healthcare access are squeezing working families. I will not give up on everyday Arizonans seeking access to basic needs while billionaires continue business as usual. Working families deserve stability, dignity, and protection. These bills ensure that employers, corporate interests, and insurance companies aren't cutting corners and leaving working families behind.
SB 1608 - Eviction limit; heat; temperature settings
Establishes tenant protections during extreme heat by prohibiting landlords from setting indoor temperatures above 82°F, allows renters to give 2-day notice (reduced from 5 days) to terminate their lease when landlords fail to fix AC, and prohibits evictions during heat waves because no Arizonans should be unsafe in their own home. This bill is getting lots of attention!
SB 1464 – Family and Medical Leave
Establishes a statewide paid family and medical leave insurance program for eligible Arizona workers so no one has to choose between their job and their family’s health.
SB 1465 – Omnibus Labor Bill
Creates labor standards to protect against heat illness; Establishes a statewide paid family and medical leave insurance program; Right to Work repeal; Establishes apprenticeship pathways to occupational licensure.
SB 1607 - Fair Claims Accountability Act
Protect patients’ rights to health insurance coverage by establishing a Healthcare Consumer Assistance Program to help consumers with denied claims, and by raising penalties on health insurance companies that systemically deny valid health insurance claims—putting patients over profits.
SB 1480 - Crime-Free Addendum
Weakens Crime Free Addendums included in lease agreements to protect tenants from unjust evictions.
SB 1788 - Homeowners Insurance Bill of Rights
Protects homeowners and renters from extraneous cancellations of their insurance and guarantees compensation from insurance in the case of emergency.
SB 1356 - community land trusts; study committee
Creates a community land trust study committee for the purpose of identifying solutions for the barriers of developing community land trusts.
ESA Reform
This program is bankrupting our state by more than $1.2 BILLION, allowing taxpayer dollars to be spent on luxury items in the wealthiest zip codes—with little-to-no accountability, with purchases like DIAMOND RINGS, LINGERIE, and tickets to SeaWorld. Arizona, this is not okay! We must rein this in. Here are two bills to help restore accountability and protect our public schools.
SB 1360 - ESAs; contract renewal; account closure
Closes a student's ESA account after one year if the parent does not renew (currently, these accounts close after three years).
SB 1361 - ESAs; postsecondary education
Requires an ESA account to be closed after the qualified student's high-school graduation.
Equal Rights
Roe v. Wade, pre-statehood abortion ban… women’s rights are being eroded every day by right-wing politicians. We need equal rights enshrined in the AZ Constitution.
SCR 1019 - ratification; equal rights amendment
Resolution to ensure the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in our US Constitution.
SB 1355 - antidiscrimination; employment; housing; public accommodations
Creates employment and public accommodation antidiscrimination protections based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
SCR 1018 - constitutional right; same-sex marriage
Ballot referral enshrining the right to marriage for ALL in the AZ Constitution.
Environment and Climate
We cannot let corporations and utilities halt climate progress. Polluters should not get to write the rules. We need protections, innovation, and accountability.
SCR 1017 – environment; constitutional amendment
Enshrines the right to a clean and healthy environment in the AZ constitution: The Green Amendment. Read all about it HERE.
SB 1606 – solar energy; balcony; requirements
Decreases permitting barriers and provides protections for Arizonans using portable solar devices or "plug-in" solar devices so families can lower costs and take control of their energy future.
SB 1350 - outdoor-based therapy programs; grants
Establishes "outdoor RX" Program with DHS to provide grants for outdoor-based therapy.
SB 1351 - energy measuring; reporting prohibition; repeal
Repeals state preemption to enable cities and towns to require energy usage measuring and reporting for businesses and properties, if the city or town shall choose.
SB 1353 - monitoring program; fish contaminants
Requires the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to monitor water quality through measuring pesticides, metals and other contaminants in sport fish once every three years.
SB 1354 - auxiliary containers; regulation; prohibition; repeal
Repeals the state-wide ban on plastic bag ban.
SB 1357 - large electronics; recycling
Requires a collection and recycling plan of any large electronic manufacturer upon registration with ADEQ; excludes small businesses.
Transparency and Government
Corporations, developers, and utilities are taking advantage of public resources and infrastructure for private benefit, and people deserve to know the environmental impacts of projects in their community.
SB 1460 - agricultural improvement districts; mail ballots
Requires SRP to notify and provide mail-in ballots to all eligible voters in SRP board elections.
SB 1508 - Utility Transparency Act
Requires monopoly utilities to report expenditures on lobbying, advertising, and more that are paid with rate-payer monies because Arizonans have a right to know how their money’s being spent.
SB 1510 - nondisclosure agreements; information; prohibition
Prohibits cities, counties, and the state from entering into NDAs that conceal a private entity’s (data center’s) water, energy use, emissions, or waste generation from the public.
