Democratic and Independent voters in LD8 who voted in at least two of the 2024 Democratic Primary, 2022 Democratic Primary, or 2022 General Elections who have not already voted in the July 21st, 2026 Democratic Primary election should know immediately by text or by mail that:

  • State Senator Lauren Kuby is a mom and grandmother, an ASU Global Futures Scientist, leader of the ASU Stardust Center for Affordable Homes and the Family, and former Tempe City Coucilmember and Vice Mayor. As an ASU Global Future Scientist, she lead outreach and studied the impact of our climate crisis on our communities. Within the ASU Stardust Center for Affordable Homes and the family, she researched and enacted housing policy that builds healthy communities, rather than enriches corporate developers. Senator Kuby knows what truly affordable housing policy looks like because she has researched, enacted, and build affordable housing.

  • On Tempe City Council, Senator Kuby spearheaded laws that mattered: affordable housing; worker safeguards; LGBTQ+ protections; and climate solutions. She led a series of initiatives to limit dark money spending and bring transparency to the campaign finance process that passed with over 93% of the vote.

  • In the State Senate, Senator Lauren Kuby has been a dedicated fighter for what matters most: affordable housing, worker and rent protections, fully-funded public schools, and taking on large corporations and utility companies raising costs on working families.

  • Lauren’s record speaks for itself. In 2025, she secured $2M for direct housing assistance for Legislative District 8, completely eliminated ICE reimbursement funding, and successfully stood up against cuts to AHCCCS, SNAP, DDD, and public education. She introduced 39 bills in the 2026 legislative session. Highlights include: SB 1608 for renter protections, SB 1464 for paid and family medical leave, SB 1360 and SB 1361 for commonsense ESA reform, SCR 1017 for environmental justice, and SB 1509 to require lobbyist contributions to be marked on campaign finance reports.

  • Not only is Lauren an effective, proven progressive legislator, but she fights the Trump agenda here in Arizona every day. She works collaboratively, building bridges with community partners and legislators to kill bad Republican bills including SB 1570, which would have required ICE at polling place. She stands up, explains her vote, and speaks out against MAGA Republicans and their anti-working class, anti-Arizona policies. That’s why she has secured a large coalition of endorsements from progressive voices and organizations — namely Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva, Senator Analise Ortiz, Working Families Party, and over 10 union and labor partners.

  • Voters should know that Senator Lauren Kuby is a proven progressive leader and the ONLY candidate in this race who rejects registered lobbyist, utility, developer, and corporate PAC money. This is because she wants to remain accountable to the people, and not the entities raising costs on working families right now.

Her entire career has been dedicated to what matters most: affordable housing; worker safeguards; LGBTQ+ protections; climate solutions; and campaign finance reform.

  • In the State Senate, Senator Kuby has taken on large corporations, corporate developers, and monopoly utilities raising costs on working families and everyday Arizonans. Her opponent, Deborah Nardozzi — who served in the house for only two months of session — has taken the opposite approach, selling out to large corporations and utilities, and accepting campaign contributions and independent expenditures from those same entities. Deborah has taken $1,500 from Pinnacle West (the parent company of APS), $1,000 from Southwest Gas, $3,000 from SRP. She’s accepted over $7,000 from registered lobbyists in the Secretary of State’s Lobbyist Registry.

  • A recent independent expenditure on Deborah’s behalf was sponsored by corporate realtors, APS, and Greater Phoenix Leadership — a coalition of corporate interests including APS and SRP. Another recent independent expenditure was sponsored by “Responsible Leadership for AZ PAC,” bankrolled by corporate realtors. Deborah’s housing platform supports bills that would remove community input and embolden her realtor and developer donors to bulldoze communities, build housing, and profit off of working families.

  • In fact, public reporting shows MAGA Republican Steve Kaiser knocking doors for Deborah Nardozzi. Voters should know that in 2022, Steve Kaiser voted YES on the 1864 abortion ban (SB 1164), voted YES on universal ESA vouchers (HB 2853), and supported the MAGA agenda here in Arizona.

  • Voters should know that Senator Lauren Kuby is the ONLY candidate in this race who rejects registered lobbyist, utility, developer, and corporate PAC money. Her opponent, Deborah Nardozzi, is a corporate Democrat whose policy agenda would align with her utility, corporate, and developer donors and Steve Kaiser.
